Meet, Sewtionary, Tasia

Though it has been over a week…I am still starstruck from meeting my sewing idols.

I was overjoyed when Tasia of Sewaholic mentioned The Sewtionary will be published into an actual book. The Sewtionary lives on the Sewaholic blog as an invaluable sewing resource. Whenever I come across a new term or technique, it was the place to go. (Google search is second) After the announcement, it was time to play the book launch waiting game.

In mid-June, Spool of Thread announced they are offering a preorder on the book for $25.99 and will be hosting a book launch for The Sewtionary on Saturday, July 12 AND Tasia would be there . *inner fangirl scream* Sadly, I didn’t know if I had to work that day… so I held off on the preorder till I knew it would be a day-off. When my parents learned of the book launch, they suggested a Belcarra top to match my recently finished Hollyburn (with fabric from Spool of Thread). So it on the sewing machine I went while containing the joy of meeting my sewing idols. Continue reading →

Note: *gasp* An unpublished post! This post was written in March, days before my Grandma passed away. If she saw this dress, she would say, “Cover up your shoulders, you’ll catch a cold”.

At last, a loose-fitting sundress that actually fits me. I wonder why most RTW maxi dresses have an empire waist, they look more suitable as maternity dresses. Now that weather finally warmed up, I can finally wear my Sewaholic Saltspring.Sewaholic Saltspring Dress

http://sewaholic.net/tag/saltspring-sew-alongThe pattern was released in Summer 2013 and there was a Sew-Along to go with it. I’m more keen on sewing the pattern when there is a sew-along. The visual instructions are more engaging than the paper ones plus there are lots of invaluable tips and tricks to learn from

WIP: Stacked for July

Belcarra, Fray Monster, Sewaholic, Summer, WIP

The Tucana Belcarra has become Mom’s new go-to top to wear, on par with the Sewaholic Renfrew. Seeing how much she gushes over the Belcarra, I made one for myself and have been loving it too. (Not yet posted)

The Sewaholic Belcarra is a 1m stash buster if you go the bias tape route. I can imagine the different mix and match opportunities.

Right now, I have 3 Belcarras cut and ready to go. All 3 were cut with only 1m of fabric. For the Pink/Ivory versions, each 1m of colour were cut as a whole shirt before I swapped the sleeves amongst them.

3 Belcarras for July

While they all look clean in the picture, they are quite a fray monster to work with. With limited bias tape on hand, I chose to sew them with french seams. The seams take double the time to sew but you cannot deny the durability of having a fray-free seam.

Here’s hoping everything will go smoothly and finish by the end of the week…
