Aster, Colette, Finished, Linen, Top

Join the aster Sewalong!2015 has been year of the button-up shirts. So far I have made a Sewaholic Granville, two Sewaholic Oakridge, and two Colette Aster.

Thank goodness for Sewalongs! My second go at the Colette Aster was much smoother than the first one (made prior to the sewalong…).

Colette’s Aster pattern was released during the last leg of my 3 week vacation. Mom gave me a lot of feedback with the clothes she packed (some made by me). A loose-fitting button-up shirt that can be dressed up would be nice as most of the shirts she packed looked too outdoors.

Davie, Dress, Finished, Knit, Sewaholic

Brand new dress for me in one of the boldest colour choices yet.

Sewaholic DavieWhat a coincidence! There is a pattern sitting in my stash from one of the Big 4s which is very similar to the new Sewaholic pattern. That dress is still in planning as I continue to doubt the amount of ease in the finished garment to my size. (No fun when I’m between envelope sizes)

When I saw the Sewaholic Davie on the blog, I put the Big 4 pattern back in the stash and quickly went out to the fabric store. It’s a pleasure to know that sizing is consistent throughout Sewaholic Patterns, one less thing to worry.

Finished, Granville, Sewaholic, Shirt

CollarSewaholic GranvilleI did it! My button-up shirt is done just in time for Chinese New Year.

I try to keep with tradition of wearing one piece of brand new clothing for Chinese New Year (traditionally it is head-to-toe brand new but I compromised). Though it is not red for the festivities, I’m sure it will bring many wears for the new year.

Note: *gasp* An unpublished post! This post was written in March, days before my Grandma passed away. If she saw this dress, she would say, “Cover up your shoulders, you’ll catch a cold”.

At last, a loose-fitting sundress that actually fits me. I wonder why most RTW maxi dresses have an empire waist, they look more suitable as maternity dresses. Now that weather finally warmed up, I can finally wear my Sewaholic Saltspring.Sewaholic Saltspring Dress

http://sewaholic.net/tag/saltspring-sew-alongThe pattern was released in Summer 2013 and there was a Sew-Along to go with it. I’m more keen on sewing the pattern when there is a sew-along. The visual instructions are more engaging than the paper ones plus there are lots of invaluable tips and tricks to learn from

Finished, Hollyburn, Sewaholic, skirt

Sewaholic HollyburnFollowing the party dress and blouse, I took a month-long sewing hiatus. Instead of revisiting my trustworthy patterns (Sewaholic’s Alma and Renfrew or Colette’s Laurel), Mom thought I should try out another Simplicity Amazing Fit, such as the 1652. That’s right, the one I talked about last time in Skirting the Issue with Gathers.

Couple days after stashing the dress into the garment bag, Mom texted me this…

'Bought the skirt pattern, will let you choose the cloth'

Guess she knew how frustrated I was with the last UFO and went to find something that works. So when I got home, she showed me her pattern haul…Sewaholic’s Hollyburn Skirt. Thanks Mom!! I couldn’t wait to start on this pattern, but dinner comes first.
